Capturing the most enchanting elements of Cataract Gorge, nestled in the heart of Launceston, this piece is a tribute to its beauty and the many memories I’ve made at this iconic Tasmanian location. One of the things that always draws me in is the colourful peacocks that roam freely - they’ve called the reserve home for over a century now and are just as much a part of this landscape as the South Esk River that flows through it. Inspired by their elegance, I painted a majestic peacock perched upon the rocks, gazing down the river, with the historic Kings Bridge (built in 1867) standing proudly before it - a familiar sight to many who walk the track. This painting reflects the peace and calm the Gorge brings. I spent Christmas there back in 2024, swimming and sunbathing beneath the bridge, and soon after, I knew I had to paint it. A haven for both locals and visitors, the Gorge is a serene escape where people come to swim, relax, picnic, ride the scenic chairlift, and immerse themselves in the beauty of the reserve.
