Since moving to Evandale, my partner and I have been enjoying scenic drives to Deddington, where we visited John Glover's final resting place at the Nile Chapel. We even brought our beloved pet sheep, Gerald, with us on one occasion as we believe he was born in that area. At last year's Glover Exhibition, I watched the crowds of visitors exploring the artwork of the 2023 finalists. It made me reflect back to John Glover's grave site, and I couldn't help but feel like he was missing out on the exhibition and as if he should be here to witness it first-hand. Which may sound odd, but thinking back to John Glover's grave site, it seemed somewhat lonely and neglected, despite being surrounded by the beautiful Tasmanian landscape, the grave was overgrown with grass and weeds. In regards to this, I felt compelled to include John Glover's presence in this year's exhibition. I aim to visually represent his burial site and create an immersive experience that allows viewers to step into the portal of his final resting place. It is important to me to share the current situation of John Glover with the people and symbolically, bring the people to him. To pay tribute to John Glover, I have dedicated this painting to commemorate the 175th anniversary of his enduring artistic legacy following his departure from this world

I have endeavoured to capture the beautiful landscape surrounding Evandale and the nearby church where I reside. Depicting key landmarks including the prominent water tower seen when approaching Evandale from the highway, as well as the Launceston airport and St. Mary's Catholic Church, seen with the Hawthorn bushes lining the fence in its front yard believed to have been planted by convicts. I aimed to convey the essence of residing in this area by capturing the serene sky and lush green pastures.

Although I have never had the opportunity to experience a journey on 'The Spirit of Tasmania', living alongside the Mersey River has allowed me to witness the vibrant activities surrounding the ship. Observing the ship navigate through the narrow river has always been a captivating spectacle. As she straightens up and sounds her horn, the graceful departure of the ship down the river towards Melbourne is inspiring. During winter evenings, the ship's illuminated lights create a delightful visual display, adding vibrancy to the city of Devonport. The Spirit undoubtedly serves the state well, providing unforgettable experiences for people from all over the world. Traveling on the ship with one's own vehicle promises a more meaningful, enjoyable, and extended stay. Through this painting, I aim to pay homage to these treasured ships before they are replaced in 2024

Drawing inspiration from my journeys to Hobart, as I admire the stunning vista of Hobart from Sandy Bay, with the Derwent River extending before me. I appreciate the picturesque sight of clouds looming over the majestic Mt Wellington. The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht race is a notable event that I wish to capture in my rendition of the scene, to pay homage to this maritime tradition. I find each trip to Hobart enjoyable, especially as I take in the beauty of the city nestled amidst its surrounding mountains.

Meet Gerald and the chickens, a delightful group of fluffy creatures that bring joy to my life. It all began one evening when Terry and I decided to unwind at the Prince Of Whales Pub. As we were enjoying our beers out front, a farmer asked "Would you like a friend?" and pulled out from inside his ute a tiny two-day-old orphan lamb, Terry and I couldn't resist and brought the lamb home. Now, Gerald has grown into a spirited sheep loved by us and enjoyed by everyone who passes by, often seeing him happily grazing in the front yard. Amongst our lovely group of chickens, we have Marmalade and Betty, two robust black Aracuna chooks, Vera the gentle white Sussex, Felicity the charming ginger Japanese frizzle, Rita and Bella, striking Hamburg chickens with black and white spots, and Penny, the cheeky Vorwerk German chook who loves hopping on Gerald's back and scratching around when I treat him to almonds. During breaks, Terry and I head outside with a cup of tea to spend time with the chickens and Gerald. They always entertain and delight us, from Gerald's playful bounces to his excited head shakes when we feed him a treat, or watch him peacefully grazing. or enjoying the funny behaviour of the chickens. Spending time with Gerald and the chickens brings us a sense of enjoyment and peace.
