I spent a lot of time in Hobart when my work was on display at La Cocina in Salamanca, and this scene kept drawing me back. The trees and shrubs in the foreground, the Derwent River peeking through, with the town below, and then the mountain towering above it all. It’s the kind of complexity that I find satisfying to paint. People drive here for this view, often sitting in their cars and soaking it in, the way we did.
